It is Parent-Teacher interview week at Heritage Glen and your fellow parents on School Council would like to wish everyone an informative and rewarding meeting with your kids’ teachers!
Here are three tips to help you make the most of your 15 minute interview:
1. Come prepared. Talk to your kids about how they feel their school year is going, what they are enjoying the most and what they find more challenging.
2. Write your questions down and bring a paper and pen to take notes. Be sure to ask about your child’s social development (is he/she making friends; participating in classroom activities) as well as academic progress (is your child progressing at his/her grade level, what are his/her areas of improvement, what would the teacher suggest you can do at home to help).
3. Write down key learnings and the next steps that you and the teacher discussed. Make sure to have an action plan achievable within a realistic timeline and set the date for the next follow up with the teacher.
Hopefully these tips will help you have a productive discussion with your teachers. Remember, studies show that the more involved parents are with the school and the community the better students perform in all areas of their life.
While you are at the school, don’t forget to stop by and check out the School Years Memory Album sale desk – a School Council Fundraising event in support of water bottle refilling stations and the Halton Food for Thought program coming to HG soon… Each album is sold for $25 (cash and carry only) and $5 gets donated back to our school.
Good luck and hope to see you all there!
